Read product reviews beyond the star rating

A high average can hide a poor fit. Learn to evaluate the details that matter for your own use.
Start with the job you need the product to do
A product can be excellent for one person and frustrating for another. Before opening reviews, write down your main use, your budget and your non-negotiable requirements. That makes it easier to distinguish a relevant warning from a preference that does not affect you.
For headphones, that may mean comfort during a long flight rather than the highest possible volume. For a laptop, it may mean running a particular application reliably rather than winning a benchmark.
Read the circumstances, not just the conclusion
Look for the exact model, how long the reviewer used it and the environment in which it was used. An initial unboxing impression provides different information from a detailed account after months of ownership.
Check whether the review describes a reproducible issue, a delivery problem or a personal preference. All can matter, but they should not be treated as the same kind of evidence.
Compare both positive and negative accounts
Positive reviews help explain what a product does well. Negative reviews often expose a trade-off or a failure mode. Read both, and look for specific details rather than dramatic wording.
A repeated concern is worth investigating, but repetition alone does not establish how common it is. Review platforms contain selective samples, and multiple articles may repeat the same original account.
Use an AI verdict as a starting point
An AI summary can organize likely strengths and weaknesses, but it can miss a recent change or confuse similar model names. Verify important specifications and check current source material before buying.
TruthRouter labels generated review themes as paraphrases. They are not customer quotations. Related source links are a separate reading list, not proof that every sentence in a verdict has been verified.
Put it into practice
Name a product and see the trade-offs worth checking. Verdicts are AI-generated, so verify what matters.
